escape artist had the pleasure of collaborating and designing costumes for artist Simone Leigh’s “Free Peoples Medical Clinic” (FPMC), which is one of four projects in Creative Time and Weeksville Heritage Center‘s Funk, God, Jazz, and Medicine: Black Radical Brooklyn. This is a walkable month-long art exhibition of community-based art commissions curated by Rashida Bumbray, and also including artists Xenobia Bailey, Otabenga Jones & Associates, and Bradford Young. Black Radical Brooklyn launches from the site of Weeksville, a Brooklyn community established by free and formerly enslaved Black citizens 11 years after abolition in New York State. Simone Leigh‘s project focuses on engaging the critical intersections of public health, racial consciousness, and women’s work as it asks viewers to consider the often-overlooked players – most especially the unknown Black women nurses, osteopaths, gynecologists, and midwives – who have overserved an underserved population for centuries.
In celebration of the ongoing brilliance of this project that we worked on with Artist, Leslie Hewitt & Cinematographer, Bradford Young, Chicago boutique, Sir & Madame will host a reception for Untitled (Structures).
The project is currently on display in Chicago at the Museum of Contemporary Art until August 31st.

Afro-futuristic musical duo, Shabazz Palaces teamed up with Kenzo and their SS14 collection to create this beautiful video teaser for their new single “Dawn in Luxor”. In case that wasn’t enough magic for you, it’s directed by Kahlil Joseph and styled by our friend Mobolaji Dawodu. All of the best coming together to create art…Kenzo sure does know how to pick ’em.
These Opening Ceremony X Mickey Mouse ads make us happy. Like Pharell happy…
Lupita Nyong’o is all that mattered at tonight’s Golden Globes. Ralph Lauren has never been luckier.
