Golden Globes Red Carpet 2015

Award season is here again and the Golden Globes is always the kick-off for formal fashion trends ahead and an appetizer for the Oscars. This year many of Hollywood’s favorites seemed to air on the side of playing it safe, but there were a few standout looks that deserve an honorable mention…

a12ff928e2c7879e9dbd451782c8e32bClaire Danes in Valentino – ornate, detailed, textured and feminine. A unique nod to formal bohemian chic.

db97fc87bc033273e5b27e293824046bRosamund Pike in Vera Wang – sexy & modern. An update to the cut-away trend, pulling off old-meets-new hollywood glamor.

70fedb069c87fcdaf79a5888b81ce2b8Felicity Jones in Christian Dior – jewel tones in elegant silhouettes. The simplicity of shape and lovely tone simply worked.

escape artist had the pleasure of collaborating and designing costumes for artist Simone Leigh’s “Free Peoples Medical Clinic” (FPMC), which is one of four projects in Creative Time and Weeksville Heritage Center‘s Funk, God, Jazz, and Medicine: Black Radical Brooklyn. This is a walkable month-long art exhibition of community-based art commissions curated by Rashida Bumbray, and also including artists Xenobia Bailey, Otabenga Jones & Associates, and Bradford Young. Black Radical Brooklyn launches from the site of Weeksville, a Brooklyn community established by free and formerly enslaved Black citizens 11 years after abolition in New York State. Simone Leigh‘s project focuses on engaging the critical intersections of public health, racial consciousness, and women’s work as it asks viewers to consider the often-overlooked players – most especially the unknown Black women nurses, osteopaths, gynecologists, and midwives – who have overserved an underserved population for centuries.
