Quaintrelle Style

Yesterday I had the pleasure of attending the New York debut of DC’s favorite new vintage shopping experience. Planet Maud Vintage & Co. was created about a year ago by NY native, DC resident, and former PR exec, Jo-Ann Enwezor, who has been gracing the nations capital with carefully selected pieces from vintage stores wherever she travels (and boy does she travel), as well as from emerging designer collections.

Each P.M. shopping event has a theme, and this one was entitled, “Quaintrelle Life: The Art of Frills”, featuring a preview of their Fall assortment. Enwezor explains; A friend of mine introduced me to the term “quaintrelle” (a woman who emphasizes a life of passion expressed through personal style, leisurely pastimes, charm, and cultivation of life’s pleasures) a few months ago and I instantly fell in love.”

Apparently Enwezor’s associates also fell in love, and she enlisted Brooklyn-based curator/writer/socialite, Shantrelle P. Lewis to host the event within the same space as her “Dandy Lion” exhibit at MoCADA, and NYC stylist Niki Hall to dish out personal style advice to help customers find their personal “quaintrelle” style.

I brought along a few friends who all snagged some key pieces, and I went home with a printed dress (from the $10 summer sale bin), and a vintage aviator suit that I can’t wait to sport this fall. I’d say that we happily tapped into our inner quaintrelle style!
